Artificial Intelligence in Society: Social, Political and Cultural Implications of a Technological Innovation

DESCRIPTION

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often seen as a key technology for social change in the twenty-first century. This assumption is supported by the fact that numerous technological applications are now being used that are based on machine learning and new possibilities of statistical data collection, utilization and exploitation.

However, the question of what far-reaching and sometimes latent consequences for humans as social beings and society in general are associated with the use and development of AI remains unanswered. How is the relationship between humans and technology changing as a result of AI and how should this change be assessed? What opportunities, but also risks, does the use and development of AI open up for people and society? What are the limits to this change and what opportunities are there for shaping it? And last but not least: What and who determines the development

paths that AI takes—with what consequences and for whom? The paper introduces the perspectives of the anthology and identifies social dimensions of the consequences of artificial intelligence.
